Week of November 11, 2019
Last week, students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades "voted" on Election Day for their favorite choices for the Christmas-Epiphany concert, which will be on Tuesday, January 7th at 1:30 pm in the church.
Results:
8th Grade - Your 2 songs for the Christmas-Epiphany Concert will be Behold the Savior and How Many Kings.
6th and 7th Grades - Your 2 songs for the Christmas-Epiphany Concert will be Winter Snow and Hope for Everyone.
Posters and Links were collected in person and by email from students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Unfortunately, if you chose to not turn in any part of this assignment, you have accepted a 0 out of 125 points for this only project of the quarter. This will be reflected on report cards in the very near future.
I sincerely hope that students who chose this path for the 1st quarter will reconsider their choice to do or not do an assignment in the future.
This week, we did not have class because of the Conference Day.
Here's a REMINDER that your assignments are due next Tuesday, October 22 in class. :)

This week, we listened to music of Venezuela - the Joropo. We looked at a video and made observations about the traditional dress and how it related to the history of the music.
Next week, we will continue with music of Peru and Ecuador as well as assigning a remaining country to each student so that we can hear more music of South American and Central American countries.
This week, we continued looking at the music of countries of South America. In particular, we listen to a piece of Salsa music from Colombia. We heard and played the claves rhythm, and we learned the basic dance steps.

Students are reminded that the Music Classroom is *not* the gym, and that behavior appropriate for outside play is not appropriate in the classroom. Thank you for reinforcing this with your children.
BIG questions about music...
Who makes music?
Why do people make music?
What drives the decisions to use certain materials?
Video: "Drive" performed by Hilton College Marimba Band 2019
WHAT are the factors which made this group so fascinating?

We continually prepare for school Masses by practicing the songs and responses, but the absolute best way for your child to prepare is to be part of your Catholic community on Sundays wherever your home parish is. Help us all stay close to the mission of Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of New York:
"The mission of the Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of New York is to ensure our schools are Christ-centered, academically excellent, and welcoming communities that teach students to be life-long learners and leaders energized by fidelity to Christ, the Church, and one another."
Hello families! The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will have their first Music Class on Tuesday next week. I look forward to keeping you up to date on our classroom activities, how you can continue the learning at home, and how we can work together with all the teachers in the school to help your child grow in academics, in relationship with other students and teachers, and with God in the community of the church.
We had our 1st Mass of the school year this morning (Sept 6), and we hope that you can join us at the next Mass on Thursday, September 19 at 9:00 am. God bless!
